Comic Books in the Classroom:

Do you love superheroes?  Do you love talking about superheroes?  Do you love watching superhero movies and TV shows?  Do you love playing superhero video and role playing games?  Are you interested in reading and collecting superhero comics?  Would you like to delve deeper into the history and social significance of superheroes?  Well then, this is the class for you!

In Comic Books in the Classroom we learn about the history of the comic book superhero genre as well as the sociological, anthropological, and psychological impact that this uniquely American genre has had on both Western and world culture.  This course covers the techniques and history of comic art and graphic novel storytelling.  Students will study the various formats and techniques used over the years in comic strip, comic book, and graphic novel publications, emphasizing how both illustration and script blend to create a unique storytelling form.  The students will also learn standard-form sequential art screenwriting procedures to produce their own work for the class.

Course Length:  1 Semester
Type of Credit:  Academic Elective
Number of Credits:  5
