Anthropology, Sociology & Psychology:

Question: Why do we find the images of the men in these clothes and poses funny, but not the image of the women? Why is one image considered "normal" and is expected, but the second image is considered abnormal?  Why do some people refer to the images of the boys as "gay", but not the images of the women?

Directions:
  1. Go to the website www.entertainmentfuse.com/women-in-comics-part-1 by clicking on the the picture to the right or by typing the web address into your browser.
  2. Read the article "Women in Comics: Do Super Ladies Need Saving?" by Nicole D'Andria.
  3. As you read the article, write down 3 important facts or details from each section onto your Avid 4-Square note-catcher.
  4. When finished reading, and taking notes over the article, compose a well-written SCR on a separate sheet of paper in which you respond to the guiding question - which is also the title of the article - Women in Comics: Do Women Need Saving?  Be sure to avoid using personal pronouns such as I and you.  Back up your claim with evidence from the article or from other evidence you are aware of or from personal experience.
  5. Once finished, staple your essay to your note-catcher and be ready to turn in the assignment by the end of the class period.  Be ready to discuss what you learned, as well as your own personal opinion, during the next class.
